Big Brother is Watching You

Street Light Hung in the Center of a Street in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Have you recently been to London? If so, you must have noticed the vast and rapidly increasing number of surveillance measures. No doubt, the UK is sleepwalking into a surveillance society right away. What a scary prospect! But WTF is this mysterious, Orwellian looking thing in many streets throughout Buenos Aires then? Is Argentina doing likewise? To me, this object does look like a CCTV camera unit, but as it turns out it's just an odd looking street light. In Buenos Aires street lights are frequently hung in the center of the street. Big brother is lighting you!

You know, it would be so easy for our governments to watch our every move. Cameras in satellites in the heavens can read license plates. But since I'm not doing anything illegal, I'm not going to worry too much...yet.

We are already in a Big Brother society here! We've got cameras everywhere! It's damn scary.

Sure glad to hear that is just a streetlight. It looks like the spy cameras in many of our stores!

Scary stuff.

Another mess of electrical wires. The problem with CCTV cameras is who's to watch all this constantly? It becomes like East Germany, where one half of the population spied on the other half. Glad to know this is a traffic light.

It is scary to think that the government can watch your every move. And I don't think that the "I'm not doing anything wrong" argument is a good one. Who decides what's wrong or not? Maybe at some point you'll be protesting for something you think is good and believe in, but the government doesn't think the same. It's never good to leave all the power in the hand of the government.

It definitely looks like a spy camera. We have similar cameras to this in our casinos. Are you sure that's just a street light?

Technology-sometimes good, sometimes not so good.

You only think it's a street lamp.

There must be a more elegant way of lighting the street, what with the lamp and the myriad of wires hanging around every where.

I dont have a problem with surveillance cameras ...

They want you to think it is a street light. Nice thing you know, you could be on a one-way trip to Gitmo.
