Moving into a new apartment can be exciting and adventurous. It requires some research and plenty of patience. When you browse the ads for a new flat you will likely stumble upon the conundrum known as '2 1/2 room apartment'. What the heck does a half room look like? Where is the other half, then? What makes a room a room? You see, this is virtually a philosophical problem. Recently I was walking through the Once neighborhood and guess what I spotted: the 2 1/2 room apartment!

Looks like a great apartment with a balcony! I wonder what it looks like inside and how much it costs per month . . .
Very interesting. We watched a TV program that other night that featured a woman buying an apartment in Buenos Aires...the prices were high, I thought, and she had to pay in cash! The one she finally bought was very small and cost about $350,000 USD.

It took me a while to spot that 1/2 part of the apartment. :-D I'm just confused as how you get to that? A really drunk architect or construction gone mad? Or an artist? Or an owner really hated the wall and decided to make everything smaller?
Hehe! Are there adverts for half-sofas and half-beds to fit in such rooms?
Very funny. At first I thought the balcony was the 1/2 room, but on closer inspection... You have electrical wires running through the streets, just like Vegas.
I wonder how people use the "half rooms." I hope the whole rooms are a good size. ;-)

Interesting. Big cities always have these euphemisms when it comes to housing. I wonder how big the half room is. In NY I saw a one bedroom apartment which was actually a studio with a walk in closet in my opinion. You couldn't stick a double bed in the "bedroom" and in living room you could actually touch the back wall from the door - I'm exaggerating of course, but it was very close to that. Also what some people advertise as balcony is only a railway 10 inches away from the window.
It looks like a nice view.
