Rio de la Plata via Polarizer

A via Sunglasses Polarized Picture of the Río de la Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina
A pair of polarizing sunglasses helped me out to block the specularly reflected sunlight just by covering up the camera lens. The gain is a much clearer picture in which the brownish sediment can be seen better. With this at hand, the founding fathers of Buenos Aires could have quickly noticed that there isn't silver at all. Instead, they have called this silver river. But thanks to this mistake we got this wonderful, exciting city.
What do you think is the funniest name mistake in history?

Wow! What a strange looking river. Does anything live inside? Where does it go from/to? How long is it? Are they boats I can see?

I don't know what the strangest name mistake is, but it's such a good question I want to think about it and come back. I know I've heard of some good ones. For instance, the Pacific Ocean is not very calm. Greenland is not green, but icy, and Iceland has more vegetation than Greenland. A town in Oregon is named "Boring," but maybe it really is boring, I have only driven through it! Another town in Oregon is called Drain. It rains a lot, so maybe that's a good name.

Did the sunglasses have an amber tint? This looks like more than a polarizing effect.

Funny or inappropriate place names abound but Rio de la Plata is a very good example. A suburban town in the St. Louis area has one of the funniest names in America - Creve Coeur, French for broken heart. I wonder what the divorce rate is.

Oh yes, of course. I should've mentioned that the sunglasses do have an amber tint plus a polarizing filter effect.

I like all those funny and inappropriate place names so far. Looking forward to read more.

very nice capture for today and I remember the Rio Plata well. My stepson used to have a pnethouse on the tall building overlooking the hippodromo, the mosque, the polo fields and Rio Plata in Palermo. I loved getting up early and watching all of the activity.

Copper River would be more appropriate!!
In Texas there is a town called
"Run and shoot"!!!!
I wonder what's the population rate!!!

Clever idea using sunglasses. This is a wide river, nice color tone too from the sunglasses. We have a small town north of Minneapolis called Nowthen, a rather funny name for a town.
