Montevideo - Buenos Aires’ Sister City

Plaza Independencia with Salvo Palace in Montevideo, Uruguay
Montevideo is like the younger, little sister that has always been in the shadow of more flamboyant Buenos Aires. Two cities so alike and yet so different! If you can't stand the hustle and bustle of big Buenos Aires anymore try the smaller Montevideo. This lovely city on the other side of the Rio de la Plata, is always worthwhile visiting.

Looks like a lovely city. I'll give it a try soon.

Maybe a slightly more windy place with lots of ocean breeze coming in?

Do you need a passport or similar document to cross the border?

For crossing the border between Argentina and Uruguay tourists need a passport, locals just need an ID.

It does look like a fine city...but wouldn't someone from Buenos Aires miss the excitement of the larger city?

It's always good to know that you could escape bustling Buenos Aires. There is a lot of excitements in Montevideo as well.

This looks like a wonderful place...not too busy (which is how I like my cities!)and just look at that blue sky! Great shot...it really shows off the architecture!

A great photo but I have not yet been to Montevideo, but I loved my visits to Colonia, a very special historic place in Uruguay. Thanks for the memories.

Both cities are so very exotic to me. Lovely photograph.

The way that center looks, I wouldn't call it 'little'! ;)

Gorgeous, though!

Do they use a similar dialect? Do they both use "vos"?

In Uruguay they actually use 'tu' much more than 'vos'.

I've never visited Montevideo, but is there a similarity with BA Plaza de Mayo and this one, or is it just me...? :-)
