Cable Tangle in Buenos Aires

Telephone Wires all over the Sky in Buenos Aires, Argentina
The sky over Buenos Aires is all over criss-crossed by interconnecting electrical cables and telephone wires as you can see in the picture. Many parts of the city seem to lack an underground wire system. Whenever someone needs broadband internet service the cable guys just throw a new cable from house to house. It is as simple as that. I find this a great example to get an idea of what the Internet looks like in 3D.
What do you think, is the Internet friend or foe?

Interesting question. I was just reading a story about Ray Bradbury and he thinks the internet is a big waste of time. I think it can be a big waste of time, but it is a lot of fun too:)

I have often thought the same thing about the wires in Buenos Aires. I remember sitting outside at the La Biela cafe in Recoleta and wondering, how and why would anyone ever string a wire from that building way over to that building. It makes no sense. They surely already had all services in both buildings and there must be a better way to get all the services to each building. Buenos Aires is such a modern city in every respect except the way they do the wires.

I think you could end up sharing not only your wifi connection, but, unbeknownst, your wired broadband connection, too.

Coming from Europe where most cabling is underground cables like these always make me think of the Americas.

I remember being in Beyrouth some years ago, and seing pretty much the same picture, as they were trying to rebuilt the country's infrastructure. Does the city of Buenos Aires have plans to bury all those cables?

I like that, 3D internet! Friend or foe? I would say friend. Yes, we can spend a lot of time online. But we make friendly acquaintances, learn each other's culture and city. The more we learn from each other, the more friendly we become, which leads to peace.

Nice shot...so many of our cities, too, consist of a maze of wires.

In South Florida it is hard to go underground because two feet below the surface one hits water...

In Ocala (north central Florida) our subdivision has underground wiring, but other nearby areas don't...

Have a great day!

I live in a part of town with above-ground wires so I recognize the problem. ;-)

Love this shot -- wires are such a necessary evil!
