Giant Flower in Buenos Aires

Floralis Generica in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina
This metal beauty is called Floralis Generica, standing proudly in a water basin at the United Nations Plaza in Palermo, Buenos Aires. The sculpture created by Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano is made of tons of stainless steel and aluminum. A nifty mechanism opens the six pedals of this huge flower in the morning and closes them at night. Very eye catching!

This is amazing.. It does look like a giant flower, or maybe a landing site of a huge spaceship :)
Great!

I love this sculpture. When I visited there last year I took many pictures of it.

There is even a control room under the basin. Perhaps it is in fact a radio transmitter facility with the intention of communicating with extraterrestrial life on other planets. Mysterious!

Not every city has one of those. That is why Buenos Aires is so high in the city rankings!
