The Simpsons in Buenos Aires

Best-Known All-American Figure: Homer Simpson Posters in front of a Kiosko in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Who do you think is the best-known U.S. citizen in Argentina? I bet many are keen on this title but there can be only one! Let me give you some hints to help you guess. The figure we're looking for is really famous for many things, but in particular, for his unintentional comedy. He likes to exclaim "Doh!" whenever he discovers an error. He's omnipresent on TV and well-known for his laziness and his love of beer and donuts. He tends to panic and yells at the first sign of any crisis, "Ahh! We're all gonna die! Run!" He is married to a blue-haired wife of French descendant with whom he has three kids. He lives in a city with one of the most common place names where he works at the local nuclear power plant. Well, if you haven't guessed it already, you are definitely surfing on another planet!
No doubt, Homer Simpson is the best-known all-American figure in Argentina.

Homer is BsAs! Surely Argentine men are not as stupid and lazy as he is (or...). And how do you day "Doh!" in Spanish?

Hey Bob, I guess every country has it's slackers. (-;
BTW, "Doh!" is in Spanish ¡Ou! (pronounced like the letter 'O')

I've never been a big fan of the Simpson's myself, but the few times I've watched the show I have enjoyed it. Homer is the everyman slacker of every nationality.

Los Simpsons is definitely the best tv-serie that has ever came from the US. Behind the humour there are often serious issues.

I remember reading from an Argentine newspaper (Clarin?) about a study that said that Los Simpsons connect kids of different social classes more than anything else in Argentina.

helsinkippusa: I think the Simpsons connect the world. There popularity spans spans countries, age groups and social classes. They are second only to that other great American hero, Sponge Bob.

I really don't know him, never met him, but have seen him.

Hey, I noticed that when I visited in Buenos Aires. Every news stand and postcard vendor had some poster with the Simpsons to sell. Nice blog. I only discovered it today, but something tells me I'll be back.
